Places of Tourist Attraction in Srinagar

Kashmir is arguably the most beautiful place in India and Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir justifies that statement.

Dal Lake
Dal-Lake

Over 15km around, Dal Lake is Srinagar’s jewel, a vast, mirror-flat sheet of water reflecting the carved wooden balconies of the houseboats and the misty peaks of the Pir Panjal mountains. Flotillas of gaily painted shikaras (gondola-like taxi boats) skiff around the lake, transporting goods to market, children to school and travellers from houseboat to shore Most visitors to Srinagar stay out on Dal Lake in one of the delightful houseboats left behind from the Raj, but landlubbers can hire shikaras for tours around the lake, visiting floating gardens and the floating flower and vegetable market. It’s a colourful spectacle, but expect plenty of attention from souvenir vendors.

Mughal Gardens
Mughal Gardens

The Garden is filled with colonial style garden with most vivid flowers. Its is modeled on the Garden found in Paris. There is a waterfall from the beginning of the garden & runs up to the end. Best time to visit before 12 noon & after 4.

Pari Mahal
Parimahal

Pari Mahal (literally ‘Palace of the Fairies’) is a 17th-century folly of arched niches and stone walls set high above the lakeshore with great views. The multi-level terraced ensemble looks most intriguing viewed from afar when floodlit at night. By day, the long, steep autorickshaw ride is worthwhile more for the lake views than for the gardens themselves.

Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary
Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary
Dachigam National Park is located 22 km from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir. The name literally stands for ‘ten villages’, which could be in memory of the ten villages that were relocated in order to create the park. The Park is only 141 sq. kms. and roughly rectangular in shape, approximately 23.5km by 6km. It is best considered as two sections – Upper and Lower Dachigam. Lower Dachigam, in the west, comprises approximately a third of the total area and is the area most accessible to a visitor. Upper Dachigam in the east extends over the higher reaches and is a good day’s trek from the nearest roadhead.

Hazratbal Mosque is the most important Muslim Religious place, situated on the western shore of Dal Lake. Its pristine white marble elegance is reflected in the waters of the lake.Hazratbal’s special significance is derived from the fact that it houses a hair of the prophet Muhammad. The history of the shrine goes back to the early seventeenth century when the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan’s Subedar, Sadiq Khan, laid out a garden here & constructed a palatial building, Ishrat Mahal or Pleasure House in 1623. However, the Emperor, during his visit in 1634, ordered the building to be converted into a prayer House with some additions & alterations.
