First Bullet Train to Run in India by 2023

The most ambitious project of this year, bullet trains will see its launch by 2023, according to Suresh Prabhu, Railway Minister.

The bullet train is expected to cover 508 km between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in about two hours, running at the speed of 350 km/hr, and will be the first bullet train to ply in the country.

Passengers will experience the thrill of riding under the sea between Mumbai and Ahmedabad on the first bullet train of India. The 508 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor will have a 21 km tunnel under the sea.

According to Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA), most of the corridor is proposed to be on the elevated track, while there will be a stretch after Thane creek towards Virar, which will run under the sea.

The cost of establishing the rail network is estimated at Rs. 97,636 crores. Around 81 percent of the funding will be received by Japan through a loan. Stock and other equipment will also be procured from Japan as per the loan agreement.According to an official, the loan formalities with Japan will be completed by the end of the year, and the work on bullet trains is likely to begin by 2018.

However, this is not the first time a railway project or grievance related to railways saw a quick redressal. Suresh Prabhu and his team have been quite active and solved numerous problems on railway front in last few months, and garnered massive praises for it on social media. When asked about other possible routes being taken up for such high-speed trains, Mr. Prabhu said various studies are being conducted to link metropolitan cities of the country, and it will happen soon once the project sees implementation.
