Ludhiana: A day after a group of miscreants brutally thrashed two brothers at Satjot Nagar in Basant Avenue, the same gang struck again on Sunday, when it mercilessly beat up a local SAD leader and his wife and looted gold jewellery and other valuable from their house in the same area.

Police have booked the accused for attempt to murder among other sections, but are yet to make any arrests. The accused are Akhresk Kumar, Arvind Kumar (both brothers who own a gym), Rohit Kumar and Neeraj Kumar of Roop Nagar and Devinder Singh and Sangam Pal of SBS Nagar.

In his police complaint, Sanjeev Kumar, brother of Rajeev Sharma who is a SAD block secretary, said at 8.30pm, he got a call from his brother that miscreants carrying sharp-edged weapons, baseball sticks and rods had attacked him and his family. The accused had broken the household items and snatched his mobile phone and cash too.

The complainant said the goons also beat up his sister-in-law Jyoti Sharma and looted her gold jewellery and valuables. When he rushed to his brother’s rescue, the accused ran after him to attack him, but fled when he raised the alarm, he added.

Sanjeev got his brother admitted to the civil hospital and informed the police. The police have booked the accused for attempt to murder, theft, house-trespass and assault, among other crimes.
Sadar police station SHO Gurdev Singh said a manhunt has been launched to nab the miscreants. He added that they were wanted in a similar case of attack on two brothers a day ago.

Police said as Rajeev suffered serious injuries, he was shifted to DMCH. He had three fractures in one leg, two in the other, a broken wrist and 14 stitches on head, they added.
