The trailer of Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s forthcoming film, Udta Punjab, which was released on Saturday, has already touched the impressive million view mark in just 24 hours. But this isn’t the only reason why Anurag Kashyap, whose Phantom Pictures, the production house behind the film, is elated. The filmmaker took to Twitter on Sunday to announce that the trailer came out of the censor scanner without any cuts or beeps.

“Pleasantly surprised and thankful to the CBFC for seeing the UDTA PUNJAB trailer in the context and clearing it without a single cut.Big one. Having cursed the CBFC always for there overzealous attitude ,must credit them where it’s due.Thank you mr Nihalani, hoping it continues,” Kashyap tweeted.

Pahlaj Nihalani, who heads the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), was criticised recently when the trailer of Manoj Bajpayee-starrer Aligarh got a U certificate, and for giving The Jungle Book a U/A certificate on the grounds that the 3D version of children’s film was too ‘scary’ for kids.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, Udta Punjab highlights the problem of drug addiction, which has become a serious issue in Punjab. Kareena Kapoor Khan essays the role of a doctor while Shahid Kapoor plays a rockstar. Alia Bhatt is playing a Bihari migrant who was a one-time hockey player forced to work in the fields after her father’s death in Punjab.
